Kundalini yoga is a discipline that makes me feel good for a few days after a class both in body and spirit.  Emmy leads her classes with a calm cheerful efficiency that allows everyone to relax and do their best.  The mood is light and happy which allows me to do asanas I never thought I could do at my age.

Her welcoming nature, positive attitude and encouragement make being in her class a true joy. She blends breathing techniques, stretching, movement, mantra and meditation in a balanced and effective way. Her approach allows me to easily drop into deeper states of relaxation and meditation. Afterwards, I experience a heightened sense of peace and tranquility. Emmy's Kundalini yoga class is a breath of fresh air.

Kundalini yoga gives me that mind, body, spirit connection that I need.  Emmy has a wonderful way of teaching.  She incorporates quotes from Yogi Bajan and explains what the exercises are for. She always provides challenging krias along with variations so that all skill levels can enjoy her class. I always leave her class feeling centered and relaxed.

I hate yoga!  I really do! I can't stretch, never could, even as a child; my legs and arms just don't turn into pretzel poses like everyone else's.

Yet, one day, a friend invited me to try Kundalini Yoga, assuring me it was not about pretzel poses. I sat cowering, hidden in the back of the class. The teacher at that Kundalini class, it seemed, didn't care if I could stretch or not, didn't care if I could repeat an exercise for 5 minutes or not.

What the teacher did care was that I try my level best and give myself permission to explore. Explore the inner workings of me: my energy, my pains, wounds, joys and celebrations of my life journey.

The moment I said, "ok" to that exploration, true transformation occured

While some 'positions' brought out some pain, the pain was a metaphor for the wounds one carried around. The Pain or Discomfort was not some army boot camp mentality, but rather, one of honoring and healing the areas in my psyche, emotions, or soul where there had been suffering or woundedness.

Kundalini Yoga allowed me the chance to release the old wounds that no longer served me.

Kundalini Yoga, by its very lack of shame or consternation, provided a place, through its chants or meditations, to cultivate a quiet calm peace and even more importantly, a love for myself; a love that no one, no one in this entire, distracted, fear driven world could ever, ever take away from me.
